What 7-OH is

Most of the research describes kratom leaf, where 7-OH is a trace component. The concentrated 7-OH tablets, shots, and gummies that appeared on shelves in the last few years are a different exposure, and regulators treat them that way.
Arizona’s Kratom Consumer Protection Act, at A.R.S. § 36-795.02, prohibits selling a kratom product whose 7-OH content is more than two percent of its alkaloid fraction, bans synthetic 7-OH outright, and requires the label to state how much mitragynine and 7-OH the product contains. Federally, the Drug Enforcement Administration published a notice of intent on July 6, 2026 to temporarily place 7-OH above a specified threshold into Schedule I. As of the date on this article, that temporary order had not been published, so 7-OH is not yet federally scheduled. This is a moving picture, and it is worth checking the current status rather than relying on what a retailer says.
The practical problem is simpler. If the product was concentrated or mislabeled, the dose is unknown, and every clearance estimate below becomes an educated guess.
How long 7-OH stays in your body
A half-life is the time it takes your body to clear half of what is present. Near-complete clearance takes roughly four to five half-lives, which is the arithmetic that turns a half-life into a real-world timeline.
The most useful data here comes from a controlled human study of oral kratom leaf conducted at the National Institute on Drug Abuse Intramural Research Program, which measured both alkaloids after single doses and after 15 days of daily dosing.
After a single use
7-OH reached peak concentration quickly, with a median time to peak of 1.2 to 1.8 hours, and a median half-life at the highest single dose of about 4 hours. Applying the four-to-five half-life rule puts most of a single 7-OH exposure below measurable levels inside of a day.
After daily use
Daily use changes the arithmetic. After repeated dosing, the median 7-OH half-life stretched to about 9.1 hours, and levels reached steady state after about 7 days. Three factors move the timeline more than any other: how often you have been using, what the product actually was, and how your own body metabolizes it.

Published detection windows for that test are harder to pin down than the internet suggests, since the widely repeated figures circulate mostly on retail sites without a laboratory source behind them. What the pharmacology supports is narrower: mitragynine’s long half-life after daily use means a targeted test can detect recent use for considerably longer than 7-OH’s few hours would imply.
Why “how long until it is undetectable” is usually the wrong question
If you are counting hours until a test, the number you want probably is not the one that matters. Testing timelines say nothing about tolerance, withdrawal, or whether use has become difficult to stop. Those are the questions clearance math cannot answer.
